What's good

  • Crisp and bright display
  • Ergonomic curved design for easier handling
  • Fast-shooting camera

What's bad

  • Poor quality pictures even in normal indoor conditions
  • Confusing power and camera button position
  • Lag when scrolling through homescreens

The Xperia TX has been able to stand out in the competitive smartphone crowd due to its distinctive design. According to most reviewers, the unique curved back makes it easier to hold as does the matte finish of the plastic. That finish, Tbreak notes, doesn't scratch or attract fingerprints as easily as other smartphones; however the phone did get "scruffy" quickly.

To keep the sleek design, the TX only has two buttons: a power button on the left side and a camera button on the right side. Unfortunately, reviewers find the size and placement of these two buttons to be confusing and often lead to numerous accidental photos.

Hardware-wise, the phone has a good 4.6" display with a resolution of 720p. PCWorld says that the screen displays sharp text and excellent sunlight legibility, though the colors do suffer from oversaturation.

Aside from the display, it has a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Many experts were unimpressed with the performance however, noticing some lag when swiping between homescreens and the App Drawer. Fortunately, Android Authority did not notice any serious lag when actually using apps.

Like all smartphones, the Xperia XT offers a rear-facing camera. Although large at 13 megapixels, most reviewers find that it produces washed out and noisy photographs even in average indoors condition. TechRadar, however, notes that it's a quick shooting camera and can take amazing photos in ideal conditions.

Overall, most reviewers appreciated the aesthetic sense of the phone but were by and large disappointed with the final product. Android Police states, "knowing there are so many better options out there with more to offer…makes buying a phone like this a rather silly choice." Reviewers at CNET also agreed adding, "there are a number of phones that deliver in much in the same fashion."
