Expert Reviews

An impressive screen, but an otherwise unexciting budget smartphone

from Expert Reviews

Acer is better known for laptops than smartphones in the UK, and the Liquid E2 is unlikely to change this situation. It has a good screen and reasonable performance, but is let down by poor design and the fact it's just outclassed by the very strong mid-range competition.

The Acer Liquid E2 is competing in a crowded market, and unfortunately doesn’t have any outstanding features to differentiate it from its rivals, while also falling short in terms of design and camera performance. While its processor and screen would probably serve you well enough, there are much better phone... Full review

Design and performance flaws take a good phone down

from PC Pro

There's plenty here to get your teeth stuck into, however. Its IPS display measures 4.5in and has a resolution of 540 x 960. It's certainly impressive, although it can't match the 720p displays of the Alcatel Onetouch Idol S or the Motorola Moto G.

The 4GB of storage is frugal, but this can be added to via the phone's microSD slot. There's also an 8-megapixel camera with flash, a quad-core processor and a large 2,000mAh battery. There's no 4G, dual-band Wi-Fi or NFC, though.

Performance is mostly good. The IPS display isn't the brightest, but a good level of contrast m... Full review

Stock Android Jelly Bean, decent battery, good performer

from Know Your Mobile
A fairly well-rounded offering let down by poor aesthetics and low storage compared to competitors at this price point - if it was cheaper it'd be good value for money.. Full review

A budget phone with all the usual tradeoffs

from Engadget
We opened by saying that budget handsets require reviewers to dial down their expectations, taking the low price into consideration and seeing if it softens what might otherwise be serious objections. In that regard, we run the risk of either damning the device with faint praise or, equally, giving a free pass to some of its more egregious flaws. When it comes to Acer's Liquid E2, we feel that it's utterly unspectacular in every way, but given the target market, that isn't necessarily a bad thing... Full review

Decent spec for the price

from Coolsmartphone

I really liked the Acer Liquid E2, it felt like a tweaked budget Nexus device. The elements Acer have added to Android are really quite useful.

Acer could fix the biggest problem of storage space by sending out a firmware update to combine the two partitions, it would wipe the users data but it would benefit them in the long run.

The other problem with the screen quality won’t really get spotted by most people, unless they plan on using the Liquid E2 as a huge gaming device, then this isn’t really the phone for them. The dual SIM variant will be incredibly useful... Full review

One of the ugliest phones of the year

from TrustedReviews
The Acer Liquid E2 is a solid but ugly Android phone. Its stand-out design point - the speaker grilles - are eye-catching, but look more like sink plugholes than speaker ports. They’re a sham, too, as sound quality is nothing special. If you don’t mind the looks and just want a competent, well-priced Android device, though, the E2 supplies the goods... Full review
