This isn’t going to be one of those times where I end with, “…but the good parts make up for the bad.” The AOT Idol X is a nice-looking phone that provides a decent screen and an inoffensive Android skin. But its processing capabilities are appalling, which would be fine if it didn’t bring down the rest of the experience. Using the Idol X is like running with boulders strapped to your legs, so unless you’re on a strict budget, avoid it. Bell sells the Nexus 5, a far superior device, for the same price, $0, on a 2-year term, and it’s only $100 more when purchased off-contract at Google Play.

Alcatel has struck a winning blow with the One Touch Idol X. It may have its faults, but between the gorgeous screen, satisfactory camera and effective multimedia functions, it has enough on its side to please buyers who want something close to a high-end phone without the high price tag. The only things holding it back from getting five stars are the lack of 4G and perfectible sound quality.

An extravagant human being may be flawed. So what about an extravagant smartphone? The Alcatel One Touch Idol X excites users with its slim build, great display and the option of using two SIM cards. In other areas, like the performance, it is decent. The OS, the warranty, the accessories and the camera are all okay and offer no major highlights.

The Idol X can be hard to use at times, for example, while installing a SIM card: once the hard-to-access flap is open, the user still has to force the SIM card into place. After all this, the user will not be happy to note that the smartphone has to be charged again within a few hours as the battery life is poor.

Smaller flaws like the relatively high surface temperatures and the (slightly) outdated Android version can be overlooked as they do not disturb the user in everyday use. The camera is far more annoying as it does not allow the user to capture pictures in the max resolution

The Alcatel One Touch Idol X is a good attempt at a high-end smartphone, but due to the poor battery life, we believe it is a failed one. If the user can live with a short battery life, then this extravagant smartphone with a great screen and slim build is available for a reasonable price. Plus, we finally have a high-performance phone with a dual-SIM option.

It is the thinnest, lightest and one of the cheapest 5” handsets with Full HD displays

from PhoneArena

You'd be hard-pressed to find a more affordable Full HD 5-incher with about the only so-so point being the relatively weak MedaiTek chipset. Barring the dual SIM version of the HTC One for China, the Idol X is also the most equipped dual SIM phone out there, and it will definitely ring you cheaper than HTC's flagship.

Keeps crashing

This phone is terrible. After 4 months of owning it it started to crash and when it crashed it would shut itself down. After about 5 days of this happening it won't start up after shutting down anymore.

I had a 3.5" Samsung. Then I acquired and own an Alcatel Idol X 6040 which I have now had for 7 months. I love the full 5" screen, its clarity, ease to type and the Android operating system. I use my Alcatel daily for emails, gmails, news and web use. I use my lap top and tablet much less now.I have had to replace the SIM card (no fault of the phone). I cracked the screen by sitting on the phone and my service carrier said it would be expensive to change. To my surprise, a kiosk in a local flea market replaced the screen presumably because it is not too hard to do. I sincerely give the phone an 8/10 rating. Less
