PC Pro

LG's tiny Optimus L5 II is cheap, pocketable and packs in a bright 4in IPS display

from PC Pro

The LG Optimus L5 II is a remarkably compact and lightweight smartphone. It has a 4in, 480 x 800-resolution screen, measures a mere 9.7mm at its thickest point, and at 103g you'll barely notice it in your pocket.

Performance isn't so hot. The L5 II is powered by a basic single-core processor – a 1GHz MediaTek MT6575 – and as soon as you start asking it to do anything demanding, such as playing games and multitasking, it begins to struggle....

The LG Optimus L5 II is a likeable handset in some respects, then, and one of the cheaper phones we've seen in a while, but it isn't our favourite budget buy. Its poor camera and slow CPU knock it out of the running as the penny-pincher's smartphone of choice.

This LG does do a good job as an entry-level smartphone offering a good first experience, though. With the advantages of an Android OS, easy to use interface and decent media performance, the LG Optimus L5 II is a rather good deal.

LG’s tweaks have created something really quite usable and doing basic stuff it performs well

In conclusion the LG Optimus L5 II is an ok little phone. As a backup phone to take on holiday, a phone to get a teenage kid, or just a phone for yourself if you didn’t want to spend that much money, it would be perfectly ok. LG’s tweaks have created something really quite usable and...More

In conclusion the LG Optimus L5 II is an ok little phone. As a backup phone to take on holiday, a phone to get a teenage kid, or just a phone for yourself if you didn’t want to spend that much money, it would be perfectly ok. LG’s tweaks have created something really quite usable and doing basic stuff it performs well. For the money you could get a few reasonable alternatives, dare I say it but a Windows Phone would be a viable alternative at this price point. Recent offerings from ZTE and Huawei give the L5 II some stiff competition.

There was a time when cheap smartphones were slow and clunky, which made them frustrating to use, but it looks like things are now changing for the better. Of course, the LG Optimus L5 II is far from a benchmark record holder, but it offers performance that is satisfactory and very adequate for its class. Furthermore, it has a screen that is better than what you'd see on similarly priced devices – one of its best advantages over the competition. The camera, on the other hand, is mediocre at best, so don't expect it to put even a basic

A neat and compact little handset, with a vibrant screen and good battery life

from TrustedReviews

The LG Optimus L5 II is a neat and compact little handset, with a vibrant screen and good battery life. It has some neat features too, including its Quick Memo app and the voice activated shutter for the camera. However, we wish LG had given it a bit more grunt in the performance department, as it can feel a little bit underpowered at times.

The screen is extremely difficult to read on sunny days. Also I have owned mine approximately a year and its no longer working. I called into my service provider and they said that its sending out error messages 5-6 times an hour. Which explains why I frequently dont receive the messages people send. One good point is that it appears to be a tough little phone. Mine has had some hard knocks and the screen seems to be holding up Less
