6.5/10
Informr score
The Motorola DEFY+ currently has an Informr score of 6.5 out of 10. This score is based on our evaluation of 8 sources including reviews from users and the web's most trusted critics.

The Motorola Defy+ was announced in August 2011 and released approximately 60 days later. It has all the features that made the original Motorola Defy a success, along with several major design improvements. It is available in both black and white.

The Defy+ is considered as one of the most rugged smart phones on the market. It is waterproof up to 1 metre in depth for up to 30 minutes, dust damage resistant, and scratch proof. Yet it is not overly thick or unwieldy unlike most other rugged phones. Specialized dual-microphone technology filters out background noise and amplifies your voice to make it easier for the person you are speaking with to hear you even in the busiest of environments.

It has a 3.7-inch LCD touchscreen display, LED notification light, and Motoblur, a new Android program that makes communication through email, text, and social networking easier. It also has a 5-megapixel camera that can capture both images and videos. However, it lacks a front-facing camera for more accurate self-portraits or video call applications.

It has an expandable memory card slot that supports microSD cards up to 32GB, which is useful because it only has 2GB of internal storage. Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS is the default operating system, and the phone can connect to 2G, 3G and Wi-Fi networks.

The Motorola Defy+ runs on a speedy 1GHz processor, as opposed to the slower chip found on its predecessor. And yet battery life is better on it, proving that it is indeed a worthy successor to the original.

Need to Know: Motorola Defy+

1. The phone has an extremely rugged design that is both water and dust resistant. (The Good)

2. Offers up to 12 hours of battery life on a single charge. (The Good)

3. Not 4G network compatible. (The Bad)

4. Very limited internal memory. (The Bad)

What the Critics Are Saying...

Need a phone to take scuba diving? Or maybe you're just congenitally clumsy? Either way, the Defy+, the update to 2010’s Defy, is for you. Unlike most rugged phones, this one is clever enough to be called a smartphone, with a 1GHz processor at its heart.

In a nutshell, the DEFY+ works well as a basic calling and messaging phone and is great for people with butterfingers. However, it falls short of in terms of multimedia capabilities. Overall, considering its superior build quality, the phone offers good value for money.

All in all the Motorola DEFY+ is a good buy. However, we’re not too sure if it’s going to overly impress users of the original DEFY as it’s just a minor upgrade in terms of processing power.

The Defy+ is an odd one. It's rugged, there's no denying that. So logically, if you need a rugged phone, then this might not be a bad choice. But that's a long way off a recommendation from us, because frankly, there's so much other stuff that's unsatisfactory about this phone, that it actually...

We would sum up the Defy+ as ‘okay'. It's a reasonable mid-range phone but its only stand out feature is its durability. It's a great choice if you want a phone that will last a long time and be able to take a day-to-day battering. However, this is a very niche market and means that an alternative,...
