It has lasted me forever!

I bought the A540 about 2 or 2-1/2 years ago & it's been good to me up until now. These past few months though, I have been having some problems. I text a lot & lately I have been getting a lot of complaints from my friends/family that they have texted me & I never responded. I checked my inbox (which I am quite compulsive about checking anyways) & it never showed a received text from them. Also I have been having a problem with my texts not being received by my family/friends. After a while of texting, I will get one that is just a whole bunch of random letters & symbols- I have also had that same complaint from my friends/family from the texts they have received from me. Also, it will tend to re-send me the same message over & over again! I had received a lot of "wrong phone number" calls- then found out from others that they tried to call me & they got switched over to the wrong number too... weird! It's almost like the lines started to get crossed. Again, this is only a new thing- I have never had a problem before the last few months. It's usually fixed by turning off the phone for a few minutes then turning it back on. I don't think the phone has a lot of memory because it stalls a lot when I try to open up picture texts & it's virtually impossible for me to get video (it has happened- but only once or twice). It's kinda hard for me to get the funny jokes & stuff because it usually has moving pictures & sound- it's almost like it's too much for the phone to handle. I have LOVED how easy the phone was to use though. When my home PC was down, I could always get online via my phone (although it was VERY slow in doing so). I have dropped the phone several times & it has been given to my neice & nephew MANY times as a play toy & it was never even phased- it is a very durable phone! I have found the alarms & to do lists & scheduler very helpful. I have always had great reception (even after all the hurricanes that we experienced in Florida that have knocked out most of the reception). I was the only one after the hurricanes to even have a cell phone that worked! The speaker phone works well. The ringtones are limited- but loud enough to hear (which I have heard is a big problem with a lot of phones). It's very comfortable to hold too. I have very small hands & it was always easy for me to hold (most seem to be too big & clunky or too wide) this one is perfect! I have never had a problem with the flip part of it getting flimsy (a friend of mine had a different flip phone & had a huge problem with that- but this one is very sturdy). Ultimately, I have loved my phone for a very long time, but since all the new issues I have been having, I need to find a new phone. I hope this has helped! Less

I have had this phone for approx. 5 years and never had any problem. It is a simple and easy phone to use there are no useless gadget on it. easy to browse through your phone book I love it, can't say the same about my wife's Motorola V262

I hate this phone

I spent $200 on this phone after I lost/destroyed (accidentally) 2 samsung A900s. The A540 has been a terrible experience. If it's in your pocket, the unnecessary speaker phone button can trigger a call that you don't realize you're making until you hear "hello? hello?" from your pocket. Also, the "mis...More

If it's in your pocket, the unnecessary speaker phone button can trigger a call that you don't realize you're making until you hear "hello? hello?" from your pocket. Also, the "missed calls" screen is terrible, because if you press "talk" when highlighting a name that you've missed, it might not necessarily call THAT person, but some other random person who had called you earlier. There have been tons of other pet peevs this phone has irritated but since im getting a new one, I don't care. Less

I would say durability is the main thing about this phone, because I never got into any breakdowns, etc. I would say sound quality is poor, and the reception is poor compare to what's on the market right now. Battery life is short, now I have to charge it every day, considering I use about 1hr talk time per day. Less

I doubt there is a better phone!

I have had my a540 for 5 years (give or take) and of all 6 phones I have owned, before or since, this is STILL the best phone I have ever used. The reception is amazing, I constantly have reception where many other phones on the same carrier do not. I think the great reception and clear sound quality are some of my favourite features of this phone. It's a bit of a plain phone by today's standards for sure... but what this phones lacks in fancy features it makes up for with quality galore. I've dropped it many times, 2 of my children have used it as a teether on occasion and it still works as good as it did when it was brand new. One amazing feature I wish my current phone had, is the a540's external alert light just above the external display. This is not one of those irritating blinking lights that does nothing more than let you know the phone is powered up, the light flashes if there is a missed call or an instant message, or voice mail. I really like that feature!!!! I can't tell you enough about how handy it is to just glance at the phone and know it needs attention of some sort. Why other phones don't do this I have no idea. I hate having to take the time to look at the small icons to know I have a text message or voice mail... the a540 takes care af all that! Over the years the battery life has faded, I have to charge it up every 3-5 days or so if I'm not using it (I always leave it powered on... Always.) If I am talking on it or surfing the net, I chage it every night or so. But really.... after 5 years of hard use, I certainly wouldn't complain about the battery needing to be charged every 3-5 days days. Great phone, I wish I could find something today with as good reception, quality and durability. Way to go Samsung, the a540 Rocks!!! :-) Less

I now have to charge this phone every 2 days. The reception is excellent and is still as good as the day I bought it. It has also been through more abuse I can think of; dropped from heights, in water and run over by a bicycle and still works fine. It doesn't have a lot of extra features, but as a basic phone it works great Less

Samsung A540 is great !

I have had this phone for 3 years and never had any problems with it. It is clear and I have yet to experience any blank spots , including calls on the fringe or even in elavators. Great product.

TELUS is HORIBBLE, Cute Phone, If Only Color Screen

I have had terrible customer care from Telus, I have been a client for just about 6 months and this is my 3rd phone through them, though its just for the time being, I appreciate the size compared to my absoulely terrible (Motorola V710). I like the outside of this phone. No Camera, No Colour Screen,...More

I have used this phone for the past two years and have gotten strong signals where most of my friends and family cant get anything. Voices are always easy to hear and much better clarity than a new phone like a Motorola Razr or LG equivelent. Battery lasts a long time can often go a week without charging while using the phone for 10-15 minutess a day. Minimilist features but it helps keep the battery time long cause there is no camera or colour screen to eat that time up. Less
