7.4/10
Informr score
The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 currently has an Informr score of 7.4 out of 10. This score is based on our evaluation of 6 sources including reviews from users and the web's most trusted critics.

What's good

  • Large HD resolution screen
  • Expandable storage space
  • Fast quad-core processor

What's bad

  • Built-in storage might run out quickly
  • Comes with software extras that may not appeal to some users

The original Samsung Galaxy Grand turned out to be quite successful despite its flaws, so the Galaxy Grand 2 is even more well regarded by reviewers because of the improvements it brings. In fact, it handles its role as a successor so well that the team at GSM Arena have gone so far as to call it, "a sequel made in heaven."

One of the improvements brought by the Grand 2 has to do with the screen. Reviewers have noted that the original model suffered from a below average display, but luckily this version is victim to no such thing. It boasts a 5.25-inch HD touchscreen display, so you should be able to enjoy HD content problem-free. And not only is the display here bigger, it also shows more detail because of the higher resolution.

The quad-core processor on the phone is faster than ever, and as Jamshed Avari of NDTV notes, it is able to deliver "superior performance." And keep in mind, this is only one aspect of what is recognized by reviewers as a generally well-rounded product. One that is based on "a very sensible balance between price, features and performance."

The Grand 2 does miss out on a number of things, however. Although it offers dual SIM support, it lacks 4G LTE connectivity. And even though the amount of RAM is commendable at 1.5GB, internal storage space is quite limited at only 8GB. Fortunately, microSD cards can be used to compensate. And 4G coverage still isn’t as widespread as 3G anyway.

It’s clear that this is not a perfect phone. Still, most reviewers think it shows promise, including Fone Arena’s Monish Kumar who referred to it simply as “the phone to get if you are looking for a higher mid-range Samsung smartphone.”

It's no surprise that competition in its range is hot right now. Well, even in such an impressive sample, it's near impossible to find a device with both dual SIM support and LTE that's not a phablet. Not even the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini does offer both features in the same package. LTE may as well be irrelevant in most markets where dual SIM is usually in high de...
