The original Samsung Galaxy Grand turned out to be quite successful despite its flaws, so the Galaxy Grand 2 is even more well regarded by reviewers because of the improvements it brings. In fact, it handles its role as a successor so well that the team at GSM Arena have gone so far as to call it, "a sequel made in heaven."
One of the improvements brought by the Grand 2 has to do with the screen. Reviewers have noted that the original model suffered from a below average display, but luckily this version is victim to no such thing. It boasts a 5.25-inch HD touchscreen display, so you should be able to enjoy HD content problem-free. And not only is the display here bigger, it also shows more detail because of the higher resolution.
The quad-core processor on the phone is faster than ever, and as Jamshed Avari of NDTV notes, it is able to deliver "superior performance." And keep in mind, this is only one aspect of what is recognized by reviewers as a generally well-rounded product. One that is based on "a very sensible balance between price, features and performance."
The Grand 2 does miss out on a number of things, however. Although it offers dual SIM support, it lacks 4G LTE connectivity. And even though the amount of RAM is commendable at 1.5GB, internal storage space is quite limited at only 8GB. Fortunately, microSD cards can be used to compensate. And 4G coverage still isn’t as widespread as 3G anyway.
It’s clear that this is not a perfect phone. Still, most reviewers think it shows promise, including Fone Arena’s Monish Kumar who referred to it simply as “the phone to get if you are looking for a higher mid-range Samsung smartphone.”
What the Critics Are Saying...
- Jamshed Avari, Gadgets 360It's no surprise that competition in its range is hot right now. Features that were once exclusive to phones twice that price are tempting users, and multinational brands now find themselves competing with increasingly well-made phones from local manufacturers.Still, most phones in its price range t...
- Andre Chan, Mobile88The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 is a worthy successor to the Galaxy Grand. It improves on the original in almost every key department, from the design to the processor right down to the battery. Even if we put aside the comparison with its predecessor, the Galaxy Grand 2 is a solid phone in its own right...
- Victor H., PhoneArenaThe Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 is a very substantial upgrade to the original Grand that improves it in practically every aspect. We are particularly fond of the now much sharper and better looking 5.25-inch display, but the improvement in battery longevity is also very important. The Grand 2 price varies...
- GSMArena team, GSMArenaWell, even in such an impressive sample, it's near impossible to find a device with both dual SIM support and LTE that's not a phablet. Not even the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini does offer both features in the same package. LTE may as well be irrelevant in most markets where dual SIM is usually in high de...
- Monish Kumar, Fone ArenaDespite its average performance and below average display, the original Samsung Galaxy Grand was a successful product for the South Korean giant and they have managed to correct most of the flaws of the original in the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 and made it almost affordable. The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2...
