LG WK7 ThinQ review

The LG WK7 smart speaker has its shortcomings and a noticeable lag when you are using the Google Assistant on it. It is also not a speaker that I will call handsome, albeit how you perceive the design may differ with you. But the sound quality more than makes up for whatever little the WK7 lacks. Admittedly, it is pricey and when an amount of Rs 27,990 is on the line even a slightest shortcoming look jarring, but the great sound quality of the WK7 compensates for it all.

The WK7 is an all-rounder when it comes to playing songs of different musical genres. With the flexibility in playing music like having Bluetooth and not being voice-command exclusive, LG has a winner on its hands. At least in terms of audio output and overall performance. Whether it wins over consumers or not is a different story altogether.

If you have a studio apartment it would be fine to have just the WK7. For everyone else living in a larger home who groups all your Google home speakers together to play at once, the WK7 is the perfect choice for filling in all the audio dead spots after you’ve placed a more powerful 360 degree chromecast speaker such as the Google Home Max or Beoplay M5 in your main living area.

Following the announcement back in December 2017, we were intrigued to see how the whole LG/Meridian partnership would evolve. A smart speaker is a sensible place to start, and while we couldn’t call the WK7 class-leading it’s a welcome alternative to the current pace-setters from Apple and Sonos, and well worth auditioning.

We like the look, it has plenty of functionality and from what we've heard the sound is good too. The LG WK7 ThinQ speaker is one of a new breed of smart speaker aiming to address weaker audio performance - and it looks like it does just that.
