You may have looked at Samsung’s tablet lineup before and thought to yourself that the Korean company really needs to take a break, what with its production of one Galaxy-branded tab offering after another. But when you first get a chance to take a hard look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Wi-Fi, your attitude might change. It boasts a great list of hardware specs and excellent pre-installed software.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Wi-Fi, as its name suggests, features a 7.7-inch screen and comes with built-in Wi-Fi connectivity. The display itself is a sight for sore eyes, with AMOLED technology and a native resolution of 1280x800 pixels on the screen. It also comes with a whole host of different hardware sensors and wireless antennas, as well as ample on-deviceRAM at 1GB and 16GB of internal storage.
It runs Android 3.2 Honeycomb by default with a 1.4GHz dual-core ARM Cortex A9 processor, and an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich—and possibly even Jelly Bean—is in the cards. Samsung’s TouchWiz UI makes the default operating system a pleasure to use with its UI customizations.
What about battery life? It's good. Good enough, thanks to its relatively small screen, for up to 10 hours of use or more per charge.
The only problem that anyone might have with this particular tablet from Samsung is the price. While it definitely gives great value all around, many seem to agree that Samsung is simply asking too much for it, especially when you take a look around and see competing tablets that offer more bang for your buck. Unless the price is adjusted to be more wallet-friendly, Samsung is going to miss out on an opportunity to draw attention to an otherwise stellar product.
Need To Know: Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Wi-Fi
1. 7.7-inch 1280x800 pixel resolution AMOLED touchscreen display is excellent whether for viewing multimedia or user input. (The Good)
2. Samsung’s TouchWiz UI on top of the default operating system is speedy with the onboard processor and RAM. (The Good)
3. Pre-intalled software is more than a little dated with Android 3.2 Honeycomb. (The Bad)
4. Far too expensive for a device in its price range, no matter how great the overall performance. (The Bad)
What the Critics Are Saying...
- Sean Riley, Android and MeIf you are in the market for an LTE tablet the Galaxy Tab 7.7 on Verizon belongs on your shortlist. It is my favorite Android tablet available on Big Red at the moment and depending on your use cases I think it holds its own with the iPad as well. The display is phenomenal and the form factor strike...
- Jamison Cush, TabletPCReviewI’ll stand by the claim that the Galaxy Tab 7.7 is the best tablet in its class; unfortunately, its class is no longer the industry standard. The latest and greatest tablets sport quad-core chipsets, and dual-core is so 2011. Yes, I said dual-core tablets have some good life left in them, but Samsun...
- GSMArena team, GSMArenaUsers who rate portability above all else have plenty of choice of 7" tablets. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 should be top of their list if budget is of no issue. Super slim and lightweight, impressively built and good-looking, this is a tablet that knows portability doesn't begin or end with size.Sure...
- Russell Holly, GeekI’m not totally pleased with the Galaxy Tab 7.7. I really like the hardware, especially when used as a “living room device” but the Samsung overlay and the outdated version of Android really take away from the experience. The Galaxy Tab 7.7 is only available at Verizon Wireless in the US, although t...
- Jeffrey Van Camp, Digital TrendsIt is super thin, super lightweight, has an amazing AMOLED screen, industry-leading battery life, and a resolution that's high enough to make a small 7.7-inch screen into a fully operational Honeycomb tablet.
