What the Critics Are Saying...

Digital Versus

Asus is still at it with its PadFone concept. Except that this new device is little more than a very slight evolution of last year's PadFone Infinity.

Overall, the Padfone Infinity is a great upgrade to the Padfone 2. All the aspects of the device such as display, build, camera and the performance are great. Only few built-in apps switches to tablet mode when docked. Asus has come way ahead in the build quality and the display, they just need to m...

Digital Versus

Excellent concept with just as poor battery life

from Digital Versus

The smartphone is a 5" handset with a Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS touchscreen and a shell sealed in brushed aluminium. The biggest changes consist of the processor (it has a 2.2 GHz Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, whereas the first Infinity had a 1.7 GHz Snapdragon 600), and the storage space (Asus has brought back the microSD card slot from the original PadFone to add to the choice of 16 GB or 32 GB of onboard memory).

Apart from a slightly darker colour, the new PadFone Infinity smartphone has exactly the same design as the first Infinity. Same goes for the tablet.  In other words, what we have is a smartphone with beautiful finish and quality handling for a 5" device, and an appreciably thin tablet. The new PadFone Infinity is faster than the old PadFone Infinity, and it has a microSD card slot for extra storage. From the finish and fluidity to the unique concept and quality screens, this Infinity has all the same advantages as the first, some even more so. Unfortunately, some of the biggest disadvantages have also carried over, such as the battery life, which is too weak to make it a reference for the high-end market.

Overall, the Padfone Infinity is a great upgrade to the Padfone 2. All the aspects of the device such as display, build, camera and the performance are great. Only few built-in apps switches to tablet mode when docked. Asus has come way ahead in the build quality and the display, they just need to make more apps that supports dynamic tablet mode switching and make reduce the bezel on the dock. Even though the Padfone Infinity comes with 32GB of internal memory, it lacks a memory card slot.
